The 2014 Arkansas Young Playwrights Competition is near! This year's Competition will be held on November 1, 2014 in Arkansas Hall at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
But before the Competition begins, let us introduce you to our playwrights. First up is Griffen Birdsong, a 15 year-old sophomore at Searcy High School who loves theater. Griffen will be competing with his play, "Broadway is Bad".
Favorite writer: Gregory Maguire
Favorite t.v. show: "Orange is the New Black"
What inspired your play, "Broadway is Bad"?
My friend, Morgan Meeds. I saw her love for writing, which then encouraged me to do the same, but with a comedy instead.
Describe "Broadway is Bad":
"Broadway is Bad" is the comedic story of a young teen who is infatuated with the sights and sounds of Broadway. But his parents, on the other hand, strongly disagree.
What do you like most about writing?
My favorite thing about writing is how creative you can get with your story in any way you please.
What was difficult, and what was easy about writing "Broadway is Bad"?
The hardest part for me was the dialogue. I wasn't always sure as to what I wanted the characters to say. The easiest part about it was the storyline.
What's in your future?
I hope to one day be a part of the Walt Disney Company or Universal Studios Orlando.
Thanks, Griffen, and good luck in the Competition!
